Why have you decided to run for election/reelection in the Bolingbrook Park District race for park commissioner? Since I work for the Park District, I would bring a unique perspective to the Board. I know what questions to ask our management team. Also, I have seen some examples of pay to play and I am totally against this.
What project most needs to be completed in the Bolingbrook Park District? And how would you work to ensure the project is actually finished and done well? I have been advocating to have portable soccer goals placed at Drafkee Park. This would promote better wear patterns and a safer playing surface. The Park District has the goals. Someone just needs to give the command. I can do that! The current Board hasn’t been able to in the last two years.
Bolingbrook is very diverse. According to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2015, 20.4% of Bolingbrook residents are African-American, 24.5% are Latinos, 11.4% are Asians, and 41.7% are white. What will you do to ensure the Bolingbrook Park District offers culturally relevant and affordable programs for all the community? There is an easy solution. Talk to people. I go out and talk to the skateboarders. I talk to the basketball players. I talk to the young people. I talk to the old people. I know that some people are not pleased with all the programming. But I also know that many people are. One of my bullet points is to increase the use of non-fee areas like sports fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, skate parks, trails, and ice rinks.
What differentiates you from the other candidate running for this seat? At Building and Grounds we voted in a union. For over two years the current Board has fought to deny these workers a contract. These are low paying jobs that are held by immigrants, African Americans, and low income workers. These are the people who do the work and it is hard work! Instead of listening to the employees, my opponents have allocated over $100,000 of your tax dollars to pay a lawyer to fight the Park District Workers.
Outside of politics, what are some of your other interests? I like running, soccer, wall climbing, reading, watching movies, gardening and hiking and horseback riding.
Why should people vote for you in this race? I would bring a unique perspective to the Board. I am honest. I am fair. I am qualified.
