Why have you decided to run for election/reelection in the Bolingbrook Park District race for park commissioner? I have the enthusiasm, time and energy to devote to another 4-year term. With the community’s support, I will continue to work with the Board and staff members during these difficult economic times to approve fiscally-responsible budgets that put residents first without sacrificing quality. I feel strongly that it is important that the board and staff continue to work as a team in order to best serve our community.
What project most needs to be completed in the Bolingbrook Park District? And how would you work to ensure the project is actually finished and done well? Being able to maintain our existing facilities and offer quality programs while keeping within budget is an on-going challenge faced by the park district.
Bolingbrook is very diverse. According to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2015, 20.4% of Bolingbrook residents are African-American, 24.5% are Latinos, 11.4% are Asians, and 41.7% are white. What will you do to ensure the Bolingbrook Park District offers culturally relevant and affordable programs for all the community? The Bolingbrook Park District offers a financial assistance program that allows individuals in need to participate in park district programs. The district constantly monitors programs that are offered and looks at all aspects of the community to determine what will best serve them. Our diverse and bi-lingual staff, including customer service, instructors and staff is dedicated to serving the entire community.
What differentiates you from the other candidate running for this seat? As a commissioner for eight years I have served as Secretary, Vice-President and President which give me an in depth understanding of how the park district runs. I’m a good listener. I will listen to the citizens and work with fellow board members and district staff and hold myself and others accountable. I will make decisions based on what is best for the Bolingbrook Park District. I am extremely proud of our professional staff and the long term plans for our parks.
Outside of politics, what are some of your other interests? I enjoy running, working out and volunteering my time. My dog (Tank) and I visit an assisted living facility weekly for pet therapy. We have also been guest readers at several VVSD schools to teach about pet adoption and dog responsibility.
Why should people vote for you in this race? I believe it is important to serve the community. I take the responsibility of being a dedicated public servant seriously. I apply common sense principles in my decision-making, and work diligently and cooperatively with my colleagues to find common ground that serves the best interests of all residents. I believe in consensus and working together to implement policies and programs which will benefit all the residents. It would be an honor and privilege to represent the residents of Bolingbrook for another term as a park district commissioner
